1. Check the Antenna
Make sure the antenna of your receiving device is properly connected and in good condition. Always fully extend it and adjust the orientation to improve reception.
2. Start a New Station Scan
A new scan can help find all available DAB+ stations. You can learn how to do this in the user manual of your device. By the way: if you place your device in a different location, you may find new stations if you run the station search again.
3. Find the Best Location for Your Device
The location can significantly influence reception (DAB+, FM, Wi-Fi). Place your receiving device so that the reception is disturbed as little as possible. If you place your device in a different location, then start station scan again.
Here are some factors that affect reception so you know what to watch out for.
Place of Residence:
- Hills, mountains, or valleys can weaken or block the signal.
- In cities, tall buildings can cause reflections or shadowing.
- In the outer areas of the broadcast range, there may be dropouts.
Distance to the Transmitter:
- The farther you are from the transmitter (DAB+/FM broadcast mast, router), the weaker the signal becomes.
Buildings and Interiors
- Thick walls, especially made of concrete or with metal components, can greatly attenuate the signal.
- Reception is often poor in basement rooms or buildings with a lot of steel.
Sources of Interference
- Electronic devices such as Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, or LED lights can cause interference.
- Nearby cell towers or other radio signals can also have an impact.
Weather Conditions
- Normally, DAB+ is weather-independent, but extreme conditions (e.g., thunderstorms) can still cause short-term disturbances.
4. More Practical Tips:
Firmware Update
- Some reception problems can be resolved by a software update of the radio.
External Antenna
- With very poor reception, an external antenna or an antenna amplifier can help.
Check Power Supply
- Weak batteries or unstable power supplies can affect reception.
Change Wi-Fi Channel
- If the problem is with internet radio, an overloaded Wi-Fi channel can be the cause. See also the instructions RADIO 3SIXTY: Streams cut out
