Basically, this is possible. However, a turntable often requires an additional phono preamplifier. This is available from specialist retailers starting at around 50 euros. If the turntable already has a built-in phono preamplifier, the connection is made via the RCA output or input.
With DUAL turntables or also with turntables from Pro-Ject, the preamplifier is already integrated. In some cases, it can optionally be activated via a slide switch on the back of the device – as with the DUAL 500:
