Where can I find the user manual?
You can find the user manual at https://devil.de/bedienungsanleitung. It is best to use the search field there.
How can I connect the CONCEPT 8/12 to the PC?
First, take a look at your PC/laptop. Which outputs does it have? Then decide how you want to connect your CONCEPT 8 or Concept 12.
USB: Connecting a PC is done via a USB-C data cable (not included) to the USB-C port of the CONCEPT subwoofer (28). If you then set up a 2.1 or 5.1 configuration in the PC system control panel, set all channels in the bass management (PC) to "Full-range speakers" or "Large," since CONCEPT 8 / 12 has integrated bass management.
HDMI IN: If the driver of your PC/laptop graphics card includes an HDMI audio driver, use an HDMI cable and connect your PC/laptop to the HDMI IN port (26).
AUX In: For a 2.1 setup, connecting a PC is done exclusively via a stereo mini-jack cable (3.5 mm) to 2× mono RCA (Front L/R) or via an RCA cable to the AUX IN LEFT and RIGHT ports (30). For a 5.1 setup, you also connect a stereo mini-jack cable (Rear L/R) (port 32), stereo mini-jack cable (Center) (port 31).
Notes on connection
The USB sound card of the Concept 8/12 is interesting if you have no other connection options.
The best connection is to a multi-channel sound card of the PC via an adapter cable mini-jack to RCA and two mini-jack cables (all three cables of good quality and as short as possible). Most current motherboards (from the last 5 years) have good onboard sound cards (e.g., Realtek), whose drivers are also regularly updated.
On a PC with a standard graphics card from Nvidia, AMD, or Intel, a connection via HDMI is also possible, since the graphics card drivers usually include an HDMI audio driver (not always on laptops).
An optical connection, if available, is also a good alternative.
As soon as a digital PCM stereo signal is present via HDMI or optical, the upmix function of the Concept 8/12 can be activated. When connected to the PC sound card, it handles the upmix.
If you have no other option than USB, external software can help if needed.
Is there special software for the CONCEPT 8/12?
No, setting up a 2.1 or 5.1 system is accomplished directly in the PC system control.
Tip: For optimal audio, in the computer's bass management, set all channels to full-spectrum speaker or large, because the CONCEPT has a bass management system built in..
Hint: When setting up a 5.1 configuration in the computer's system management, rear speakers may be identified as side speakers. This is not an error and has no impact on the use of the speaker system.
back to overview
My CONCEPT 8/12 is ready to use and a source signal is present via HDMI IN / HDMI TV / OPTICAL IN, but I can't hear anything. What could be the reason?
Possible cause 1: Playback device sending digital output in an incompatible format
Solution: Make sure the correct bitstream is set as the output format. Concept 8: only Dolby Digital bitstream. For Concept 12, Dolby Digital or DTS bitstream. Set the digital output format to "PCM" in the player's setup menu if there are problems playing Dolby Digital bitstream.
Possible cause 2: Playback device not connected properly.
Solution: Make certain the CONCEPT is connected to the ARC (Audio Return Channel) if you're using a TV and have ARC activated in the TV's settings.
I hear sound, but the rear speakers and center do not output any signal, what could be the reason?
If the source signal is in stereo, only the left and right speakers will be used in standard conviguration.
Solution: Press the UPMIX button on the remote control. This will divide the signal between all your speakers.
Hint: Upmix can only be used for sources that deliver 2 channels at most (such as Bluetooth®, 2-channel PCM via HDMI or optical). When the SETUP (22) switch is set to 2.1, upmix is not available.
