What is the toggle on my dipole speakers for?

Some of the home cinema systems offered by devil come with special effect speakers known as dipoles. Depending on the version, these effect speakers have a toggle switch, which can be found on the rear connection terminal of the speakers. The Theater 500 dipole speaker looks like this:

Here you can decide whether you want to use the dipole as a direct radiator or dipole. In dipole mode, the sound is emitted at the front and rear. As a direct radiator, the sound is emitted either to the right or left.
